Making my own candles came out from the fact that business around were selling candles worth more than my pocket! Honestly, there was a time when I thought, one day when I will have enough money, I am going to buy these candles, have them in my home, and let them burn! I did as well, for some time as well, only to get a shocker when I became a bit more mindful with my money!
So, yesterday I went with my friend to a mall, and thought of getting a candle from bath and works. As we stepped into the shop, there was a very sweet attendant, who showed us different candles, and I thought to myself, these are candles right! I mean candles, and with the size that they are coming at, they are going to be max for 1000 or 12oo each. I guess, I was wrong at that very moment, I should have asked the person before seeing the candles! Well, phew! So, I went through all the candles, and finalized two of them! Very confidently I asked the person what the price would be! You know what he said, he told me, that one of them is for 2500 and if I do get two of them, I will be getting them for 4k. I looked at my friend, and we just left!
4000 for two candles, for what! I mean, for what, is the cost of brand more important than the product itself, and just because you are selling it off in some fancy shop doesn’t mean that you will overprice your product to an extent, that the consumer feels dumb for even buying them! Well, either way, I decided to let loose of buying candle from shops, and instead decided to get soy wax from a shop. That costed me 400 bucks for 1 kg of the wax. The wicks costed me around 25. So, the same candle, the one I was going to buy for 2000, I got the raw materials, and made it for around 50! I even added coconut oil to the candle while making. Below are the photos, of the candle I made.

This candle has some rose petals as well, I had dried rose petals at home! I think this is something that anyone can get, but I am sure, had I bought them from the branded shops, they would have charged me for even these rose petals! May be I am not understanding it better, but for something that costs 150 max, no matter what is included, can never cost more than 1500! Also, I think business should bring in more transparency in what the raw materials cost, and where they get them from, and how much it costs them, what is the profit margin! And as a consumer, we need to understand what we are paying for, is it the product, or the brand?

If you do like my candles, let me know. Will send over to as well, not for 2500 for sure!
Foolishly Yours,
