Sometimes you know it right, you know it in your gut and in your heart and every fucking cell of your body, and yet you need to read it somewhere or hear it from someone, to just know that you were right, to just validate and inform yourself, that you were right! This happened with me today, when I read the book! This time the author talks about the difference between trust and confidence, about respecting every work, most importantly being selfish about the work you choose for yourself!
Few years back I was having this conversation with my friend, and I told her I want to do something because I want to do it, not because of anything in return, not because its a transaction. And then sometime back I had this conversation with my boyfriend, when I told him that I am already doing a job and want to make sure that this relation is not one of it!
I knew that I can do all of it, be it talking nicely to your parents, or taking care of us and all the other things, but if it is done as part of transaction, it would break my heart! If its done as love, things will become more beautiful, life will become a joy! This is what the author talked about, when he explained the difference between trust and confidence. The reliability of your manager is the trust that he or she has on you, the fact that considering you are given money, you will do your job well. You will take care of work, and ensure things are done without any flaws. When this reliability comes from your spouse or your friend, it is not in return for a considerate transaction, you do not keep track of when the other person does the same for you, that is the confidence! It is an understandable equation between people where they do it, and when they do it, it is not because they need anything in return, but for love!
The author talks that life is indeed work, and all the work that we do is relationship! Some of them are based on confidence while others on trust! So, when you start looking at work in terms of relationships and start taking care of them, everything else is taken care of!
The author then touches upon the fact that considering that we all are doing work, there can be no work that is above the other one! Also, one thing that he makes very clear today is that you need to be selfish about the work that you do, you need to find the work that brings you the most joy, and when everyone will start doing the work that they enjoy the most, it creates a harmony in life. So, for example, if someone wants to be cricketer but loses the opportunity because of whatever reasons you are not able to achieve playing cricket. In that case, choose to either write about it, or speak about it, or find a way to fit in the world that you wanted to fit in! Not only will you be satisfying your soul, but more importantly be part of the ecosystem that grows. Because only when people are absolutely selfish about the work that they do, they grow, and when individual grow, society grows.
As the author says, You can do whatever kind of work you like, and it does not matter what kind of work other people do, either!
With this fellas, I leave you for today! I hope you find the right balance of confidence and trust, and get the opportunity to be completely selfish to choose the kind of work you want to do!
