If you have ever travelled in Delhi metro at 5 on a Monday evening, you know, you know that it hurts! Standing for an hour with a laptop in your hand, with the sudden jerks of the metro, often when you are too involved in the music, in the lyrics, as if the universe is suggesting to stop overthinking! If you haven’t tried, try, honestly try! Not just because I am a sadist and want others to go through the agony I did, but because when you are extremely tired, often you realize what comforts you, what actually comforts you!
On this particular Monday evening, upon reaching my flat, we decided to go to a nearby restaurant instead of the obvious pizza huts and mc Donalds that we have been going to for so long. The nearest one in our case was Sagar Ratna. Honestly, hesitantly I went inside, more with a sense of surrender of whatever shall happen! If only I knew that food could bring so many thoughts to my head!
The ambience at Sagar Ratna is amazing, the lights are dim, the music was quiet, no constant chit-chat, bickering, about what should be ordered, or what you want, a good spacious place with polite staff. I mean the last thing that you want when you are going out and ordering food which is often way too costly than required, is an uncomfortable chair and having to get your own order from a list of things that almost look and taste the same!
The comfort and the amazing food at reasonable rates, made me think, what are we doing wrong and how easily are we getting fooled in the name of showing off! With us having such a rich culture of cuisines, be it of north, west, east, south or central India, it definitely has to be the 200 years of rule that has imbibed in us the feeling of insecurity, the feeling that eating a burger would make you cool, but having a taste of idli makes us look, villagers!
It is in this manner that we are getting fooled into eating which is ideally not good for our health and not for our pockets as well! Imagine being in a country that exports potatoes to more than 30 countries, exports groundnut oil, having probably the highest number of cows which in turn help in getting ghee, we are paying money for eating the same potato! Paying for royalty does not make any sense!
Often times I wonder if living the American dream is a blessing or a curse!
