Some people think that the government is wasting money on the arts and that the money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
SAMPLE ANSWER 1
Arts is one of the fields that often gets neglected when thinking about the other issues of the world, however, often we forget the importance it plays when it comes to making the way of living better. There are many people who are of the opinion that the government instead of spending money on art should rather spend on other areas of governing. In my opinion, art might not directly impact the working of people but it definitely makes a major impact on how things are done.
People against monetarily funding the arts believe that the money could be better utilized by the government towards literacy, building roads or better health sector. Although, there is no denying that the importance of the above can be effected, but we also need to work towards better opportunities for arts.
There are several people who choose to take arts as their primary job, and providing an environment for their growth is equally important. Even more, creating art galleries, or featuring the artist, has always boosted the economy. Art galleries can attract tourists from all over the world, generating revenue in return. It is also the case that viewing art and watching artist perform is a great way of retreating and relaxing which is much needed in the hectic environment in which we live. If governments fail to support arts financially, many art galleries and theatres would not be able to survive.
Hence, in my opinion supporting art galleries is beneficial for not only the individuals but also society in large.

Some contend that there are many pressing concerns that a country must resolve before putting emphasis on the art. However, in my opinion, art is an essential part of our culture and is quite fair to allocate funds to preserve and develop arts.
Although, there are justifications by people who oppose spending on promoting arts.
Firstly, most art projects are expensive with no obvious outcomes that have direct relations to the nation’s income. Even more, arts is not a critical aspect of the sustainability of human’s life. For instance, although one cannot deny the amazing sculpture created in the form of Rock Garden, its absence might not have impacted lives of people.
However, one cannot deny that arts is a part of a culture which becomes the identity of a nation and if the culture is strong enough, eventually it could be a major source of income. Furthermore, there are many individuals in a country with a flair of arts, not spending or promoting this field directly impacts the lives of the people.
Overall, supporting arts not only improves the quality of life by improving the tourism industry but also helps in having a better artistic view of life.
SAMPLE ANSWER 3
Whether art and artist should receive government funding has always been a topic of discussion. Some people opine that instead of wasting money on arts, the government must allocate funds for the betterment of the other sectors. In my opinion, arts is as important as other sectors and must receive government funding.
Firstly, art reflects the culture of a country and promotes understanding of their culture and architecture. Secondly, investing on arts often gives returns to the government. People outside the country come to see the historical buildings and by maintaining its artistic legacy, a country can encourage the tourists to visit again and again. This promotes the tourism sector of the country and eventually the economic growth of the country.
Even more, art sector employs people. For instance, artist like singers and dancers have huge fan following. Their work is watched by millions of people and provides them with recreation and stress free environment. This might not directly impact the economy but a stress free country always performs better.
However, spending on arts must never be at the expense of other sectors like education, health care or defense. They are certainly important aspect of the society and must not be neglected. Overall, in my opinion, there is no denying the arts is an important part of the society but neglecting other sectors just for art is not the best move.
SAMPLE ANSWER 4
Government all over the world are grappling with problems like rising unemployment and growing threats of terrorism. Poverty is still a major issue in many countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. With all these factors, ignoring arts and spending money on improving the conditions in other aspects does sounds a logical response. However, in my opinion, if not hefty amount of money, the government must not ignore the importance art plays in the lives of individuals.
Contrary to popular belief, art is not a waste of time but rather an industry that can grow exponentially and generate revenues. For instance, youtube, no matter which industry an individual is currently employed with, there is no denying that one does not know about it. The videos present there, provide stress relief to many and has even become a primary source of income for others.
Arts can also help sell a country as a tourist destination. For example, the Indian government actively uses traditional arts forms to promote tourism in the country. India’s classical dance forms like Bhartnatyam and Kathakali have enthralled the audience all over the world and attract thousands of international tourists to the nation. This influx of tourists creates jobs and helps the local economy.
However, there is no denying that matter of education, poverty and health are of serious concern and do need an undivided attention. In my opinion, the government must definitely work towards the improvement of these sectors, but in parallel must give importance to the emerging sector of arts as well.

Being successful has often been associated with either being a doctor, engineer or teacher. With economies like South Asian, African, it makes sense as well. More number of educated people will be beneficial for the economy as well. Considering these factors, ignoring arts for the betterment of education, defense or health is undeniably the right choice. However, in my opinion, the role of arts cannot be ignored in the face of alarming situations in other areas of society.
Firstly, arts are an area of interest for a lot of individuals in countries across. Be it at painting, acting, video making, editing, most people find their interest in it, but often because of lack of opportunity settle down for other career options. With nurturing these talents of the country, a country can have a higher happier index and probably they can contribute to the economy of the country. Secondly, arts can often help the country in the tourist department. For example, a country with no to little artistic points will find it difficult to attract tourist in their country, leading to less income through tourist department.
However, the areas of education, health and defense require equal importance. Literacy is one of the major factors impacting any of the country, and the government must ensure that individuals are literate enough. With the emerging arts department, the governments can as well, train the people in the areas related to arts, creating a new market.
Overall, arts might not be the most important aspect of investment, considering the state of other sectors. However, in my opinion, the role that this sector plays is essential for the well being of the growth of the entire economy.
