‘Environment is more important than development.’ Present five arguments in support of this statement. You should write at least 250 words.
SAMPLE ANSWER
If you think economy is more important than environment, try counting your money while holding your breath. This one quote in simple words clarifies, what most of have doubts on! The world is rapidly changing and with advancement in technology, there has been an urgent need for development across, but at a cost of losing environment, the development is short of success.
There has already been an excessive waste of natural resources and in doing so, put Earth on risk. Destroying the rain forest gives the native people, no other option than living in the urban slums! Even more, unchecked population growth has put a huge amount of pressure on the limited resources present.
The coming of industrialization has led to the setting up of more factories, which do provide jobs. But, in doing so, we have forgotten the high level of pollution that has caused huge impact on the air of the countries world wide! This not only impacts the human living, but also other living beings. This has increased health problems and resulted in annual losses to farmers of crops worth billions of dollars.
Another example of this is the hydro electricity generation. Although, it sounds good on the outskirts, damming rivers is in itself damaging the environment. It also forces huge numbers of people off their land – as in China’s 3 Gorges project.
Overall, although the development of the country is important for an overall economic development, putting the environmental issues at par for this results in desertification in overall scenario.
