Are you Modern Enough?

With iphones in our hand and America in our minds, we have entered the 21st century. This era is credited for being the era of entrepreneurs, the era of creative people, the time when we shop online, wear the best brands, use the best devices and are updated every second. Yes, we have finally become modern. But before I praise us more, there is a very fundamental question that needs an answer,” What do you mean by being modern?”

Is it having the coolest gadgets at our tips, having a wifi in our house, wearing western clothes, going to restaurants, having a girlfriend/boyfriend, working in MNC or speaking good English or earning more money and living in better conditions? What is it? What do we mean by becoming modern? Because if these things symbolize our modernity, I am afraid to tell you, my friend, that is called being a part of a growing economy. We are growing. Globalization is the one to be blamed. The world is becoming one. There is an ongoing exchange of people and ideas taking place amongst countries. And this is the only reason that you have an iPhone and wifi at your house. You are wearing those branded clothes, because, in 1992, Dr. Manmohan Singh opened the gates for it.

At an individual level, your modernistic behavior is reflected in your thoughts, the way you deal with things, how well you manage stress. It is your approach towards the differences that make you very twenty-first like.

So, if you say that you are of the present-day and still don’t rent a Muslim your house, you are not modern my dear friend, you are a cow shit that has got fungus because no one cleared you off. If you think that women are good off at home and shouldn’t be allowed to work, you are the rotten egg, that needs to be thrown off. If you are of the opinion that India is your country and not of any Muslim/Christian/Buddhist, you need to be sent to jail, for the crime of terrorism. If you blame the women or her clothes or her time of moving out as the reason behind her rape, you should be fucked by cactus. You call yourself modern and do things that may be our grandparents would deny doing!! I could have used n number of abusive languages for you, but I didn’t want to spoil my article nor my mood. More importantly, I don’t think you even deserve them.

Having said that, this article goes for every individual who claims that they are “the twenty-first-century” people. We are living in a society that is becoming modern externally, but we still are the same. The same country where a Muslim has to scroll through 10000 options before they get a home( the reason being, they are rejected often because they are Muslim), where we all although have a house, but some have leaking roofs, some have faded paint, others, have a view of garbage outside the window, while others are never sure for how long they have the roof. This is an appeal to all my fellow countrymen and women, get out of that rat race of being the number one and let’s enter into the rat race of making our country the number one.

The country that is bold enough to say whatever it does on the face, the country where even if people don’t love each other, they respect each other’s individuality, the country which may not eat together, but won’t let anybody starve if they are getting the food. The country that was once called the “golden bird”, the country called “INDIA”.
