Features of Business Intelligence

We are in the world of Internet and this world is growing fast. With lots of data generated and available, traditional databases have lost their way in today’s world. Although, no one can deny the importance of relational databases, in today’s time business are looking for something more. They want to invest in things that will give them profits, their customers, they need to know trends, understand past better so that they are able to make efficient decisions and it is here that business intelligence comes into forefront.

But, what is in BI that is attracting lots of business towards it? Well, let us have a look at some of the features of Business Intelligence.

    1. Single Version Of Truth – Single Version Of Truth is a concept which describes the ideal situation of data warehousing stating that there will be either single centralized database or at least distributed synchronized database which stores all of an organization’s data in a consistent and non-redundant form. This means that no matter what or how the data is being fetched, you will get the same result every time. It contrasts with the single source of truth (SSOT) concept which states that the information must be stored at only one place.
    2. Fact Based Decision Making – Unlike making decisions based on your gut, the decisions are made on the basis of the fact presented. So, you have the data and you have lot of it. BI intelligence allows you to analyze it and then take decisions. So, you are not taking decisions on what you feel but on what you see, allowing you to take more effective decisions.

    1. 360 Degree Perspective On Business – This is a concept most of the business are trying to do. It simply means that the business are trying to find what the different customers have view on their particular product and for that they are trying to collect data from different sources such as mobile, you tube, interactions, questionnaire’s and lot of things. The data is  collected and then cleansed, analyzed and a better decision is made. It also means that it allows the business to be seen from different perspectives. Each person in the project team will look at data from their perspective and will look for attributes that add value for decision making in his/her role.
    2. Virtual Team Members On The Same Page – We are living in a globalized world and business today are not limited to a single place. They are located at so many places and it is very important for the business to succeed, that all the different branches are able to interact. So, since their are so many employees who are may be working on a same project from different geographic locations, it is termed as a virtual team. It requires tools for the business to interact in this way, and business intelligence provides them with the right set of tools to ensure connectivity even when they are separated geographically.

Business have grown and it is with Business Intelligence that they will be able to make better and increased profits.

    Happy Learning 🙂
