Data Mining and Data Warehousing

When understanding the world of Business Intelligence, there are two common terms that one hears, one is Data Mining and the other is Data Warehousing. But, have you ever wondered if the two are same or different. And if they are different what is the difference.

Well, there is a bleak line of difference between the two.

DATA MINING — It is the technology that automates the process of pattern discovery.

DATA WAREHOUSING — It is a technology that enables users to explore data in search of patterns and trends.

This was farely simple, rght?? Yes, that is how it is.

In data mining, various algorithms like regression, classification, artificial intelligence, neural networks, association rules etc are used for knowledge discovery.

In data warehousing, tools like Informatica are used to first extract, transform and load the data into the data warehouse, from which further things are done manually to figure out patterns in the data.

Happy Learning 🙂
